The core web vitals are mainly comprised of the following three metrics

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

LCP measures loading performance and identifies the period in the page load timeline when the chief content of the page has probably loaded. LCP should take place within 2.5 seconds of the page loading actually begins in order to ensure an excellent user experience.

First Input Delay (FID)

FID estimates interactivity i.e. responsiveness and determine the experience user is likely to feel when attempting to associate with the page for the first time. The pages are required to have an FID of lower than 100 milliseconds to ensure a pleasant user experience.

Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)

Google considers the above-mentioned metrics as the Core Web Vitals over others because 

  • they entertain the most important user-centric outcomes, 
  • they are estimable, and
  • they are having the helpful lab diagnostic metric equivalents.

How to improve core web vitals

As per the advice from Google, fixing everything that is marked as ‘Poor’ should be your first priority and then the issues influencing most of the URLs should be settled on a priority basis.  A non-technical user can take the help of technical people/developers to solve particular problems. However, thinking about utilizing AMP(Accelerated mobile pages), restricting the number of page resources up to 50, and lessening the size of the pages to lower than 500 kb is strongly suggested by Google.
